Think About It First

Middle School Student, Framingham, MA

I spent last summer at a sleep away camp on the Cape. There was one girl in particular that not many people liked. She happened to have the bed right next to mine. This girl always snored at night, which kept most of us up. One night, the other girls and I were chatting and having a good time in our cabin. Somebody asked me if this girl was asleep. I said, “ No, if she was then she would be snoring!” All the girls laughed and continued to talk. The next day this girl wouldn’t talk to me at all. She came up to me later that day and said she was just resting the night before and heard what I had said about her. At the time when I said it, I thought nothing of it. I just thought it was funny. I felt really bad that I had been so mean to her for absolutely no reason. I now know that I should think about what I say before I say it.
