Early Release

Middle School Teacher, Framingham, MA

One day, I was with a group of friends, after an early release. I was the bridge between two groups of friends. Everyone was friendly but not best friends. After a while, one group started to pick on my other friends. At first, it was no big deal, just making some jokes and the kids being picked on didn’t seem to care. Not long after that, the “joking” became more serious and hurt the kids feelings. I could tell that the kids being made fun of were not having a good time and felt very uncomfortable. So instead of going with the crowd, and making fun of them, too, I stood up for them. I told the kids doing the “joking: fun to stop it because I could tell that the other kids were hiding their emotions. Those kids and I went back to my house to hang out for the rest of the day, and had a lot more fun. After they left, when I was explaining to my mom why we were back at the house, I felt very good about what I had done.
